「バットマン/ダークナイト」(2008年)や、「ウォッチメン」(2009年)といった本格的なコミックヒーロー映画を製作してきたパートナーのワーナー・ブラザースとレジェンダリー・ピクチャーズが、日本生まれの世界のモンスター「ゴジラ」のハリウッド版新作映画の製作が正式に決定したことを、下 ↓ のようにプレスリリースしてくれました…！！
ワーナー/レジェンダリーが、ハリウッド版の新しい「ゴジラ」を作る…ッ！！というニュースは、昨2009年8月13日にホラー映画サイトの BLOODY DISGUSTING がスクープしたのが最初で、あぁ…、そんなウワサがあったっけ…と、すでにご存知の方も多いと思います。しかし、ゴジラも人気キャラクターだけにデマが多く、真偽のほどがわからなかったのですが、レジェンダリー・ピクチャーズから3月29日付けで正式に新作「ゴジラ」製作決定！！の広報が成されたことで、 BLOODY DISGUSTING のスクープが真実だったことが検証されました…！！

プレスリリースはナンだカンだと書いていますが、ほとんどは東宝が製作した「ゴジラ」シリーズがどんだけスゴイ映画か…ッ！！といった、「ゴジラ」について、あまり知らないアメリカのメディアに向けた説明なので、日本のゴジラ・ファンにはわかりきったことばかり書かれています。
その中で重要なポイントとしては、ワーナー/レジェンダリー製作のハリウッド版「ゴジラ」の全米公開が2012年に予定されており、日本での配給は東宝が受け持つことと、新？！、それとも真？！の「ゴジラ」映画を作る監督を近日中に発表しますよ…ッ！！ということぐらいです。
“新”であると同時に“真”であってほしいハリウッド版「ゴジラ」の監督は、果たして、誰なのか？！、とても楽しみですね！！、発表されれば、もちろん、お伝えしますが、とりあえず、その候補に、トンデモ映画のカンちがい巨匠ローランド・エメリッヒ監督が入っていないことだけは確実で、この「ゴジラ」プロジェクトに関して、オリジナルの「ゴジラ」への注目を怠ると、あぁいうクソ映画ができる…といった、現ソニー・ピクチャーズ傘下のコロムビア/トライスターが製作した「GODZILLA」(1998年)を完全否定するレジェンダリー・ピクチャーズの内部証言が別に伝えられたりもしています。

ワーナー/レジェンダリーが新しいハリウッド版「ゴジラ」のプロジェクトを託すのは、ロバート・ダウニー・Jr主演の「シャーロック・ホームズ」が大ヒット日本公開中のプロデューサー、ダン・リンを筆頭に、「リング」シリーズや「呪怨」シリーズといったアジア映画のハリウッド版リメイクを主に手がけているほか、リヴ・タイラー主演のスリラー「ストレンジャーズ/戦慄の訪問者」(2008年)をスマッシュヒットさせたロイ・リー、そして、SFXアーティストのブライアン・ロジャースで、言うまでもなく？！、新しいゴジラは3Dで襲ってきます…ッ！！
さて、大友克洋の「AKIRA」に続けて、「BLEACH」の実写映画化も決定したワーナー・ブラザースのハリウッド版「ゴジラ」は、単に3Dを売りにしたイベント・ムービー？！、それとも、日本のゴジラ・ファンも納得の真ゴジラ映画？！、CIAリーダーのみなさんは、どのように思われるでしょう…？！


Burbank, CA - March 29, 2010 - Legendary Pictures announced today that they will develop and produce a new film based on Toho Company’s famed GODZILLA character. Through the terms of the agreement, Legendary Pictures has acquired the rights to produce a movie inspired by Toho’s Godzilla, a franchise the Japanese company created and has nurtured for over fifty years.

Toho’s GODZILLA franchise boasts one of the most widely recognized film creatures worldwide, resulting in a series of books, television programs, video games and more than 25 films worldwide. Legendary intends to approach the film and its characters in the most authentic manner possible. The company will, in the near future, announce a filmmaker to helm the film for an intended 2012 release. The film will fall under the company’s co-production and co-financing deal with Warner Bros. Toho will distribute the film in Japan.

“Godzilla is one of the world’s most powerful pop culture icons, and we at Legendary are thrilled to be able to create a modern epic based on this long-loved Toho franchise,” said Thomas Tull, Chairman and CEO of Legendary. “Our plans are to produce the Godzilla that we, as fans, would want to see. We intend to do justice to those essential elements that have allowed this character to remain as pop-culturally relevant for as long as it has.”

“Godzilla is a signature Japanese character which we have nurtured over the years. It is a great honor to reach an agreement with Legendary Pictures, the parent to many a blockbuster film, and we are delighted in rebooting the character together to realize its much anticipated return by fans from all over the world,” comments Hideyuki Takai, President of Toho Co., Ltd. “We are anxious to find out where Godzilla’s new stomping will take us.”

In addition to Legendary, producers on the new film will be Dan Lin, Roy Lee and Brian Rogers. Yoshimitsu Banno, Kenji Okuhira and Doug Davison will Executive Produce.
